Elijah Minnelli's dub grows from unexpected roots. Test Pressing called it earthy, rootsy mutations on the reggae gene, shaped as much by folk and cumbia as by dub. Since his breakthrough album Perpetual Musket (FatCat, 2024), the acclaim has kept building, with praise from both The Guardian and The Quietus.
Live, it's all about the mixing desk. Minnelli strips his sound down and rebuilds it from there: rickety, ragtag percussion and warmed-through subs, layered with his own vocals and folk melodies. The result sits somewhere between sound system and melancholic balladry. That approach has taken him to stages like Cafe OTO in London, Dubfabrikken in Copenhagen and Circus Krone in Munich, alongside artists such as Shackleton, The Notwist and Holy Tongue.
"The splicing of genres feels seamless, joyful and briskly contemporary." – The Guardian
