About the concert
At 89, saxophone icon Gilbert Holmström shows no signs of slowing down. He made his debut in 1965 with the cult classic Utan Misstankar, and six decades later received a Grammy nomination for the album PEAK (Moserobie, 2024). This autumn he brings his quintet to Fasching with a set of previously unreleased compositions from the 1960s.
The music reflects a broad range of influences — Coltrane, Ornette, Blakey, Ayler, Miles — with Duke Ellington's first commandment echoing in the background: "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing."
