About the concert

A loyal, long-suffering devotion to rock is no guarantee of success — plenty of bands rehearse week after week only to play to near-empty rooms. But after years of stubborn grind, the tide has finally turned for Johan Airijoki. It's exactly that hard-won journey the former miner from Malmberget sings about on his latest album, "Rockens vingar" ("Wings of Rock"). On "Den långa vägen hit" he puts it plainly: the years of graft have finally earned him a crowd. It's a cocky mission statement from an artist who knows the hard years didn't just have to be endured — they made him one of Sweden's most distinctive voices, heir to a storytelling tradition where everyday life, work and place become the stuff of song.

The road started far from the big stages. Airijoki combined the mines with playing in bands and working as an après-ski troubadour long before his 2014 solo debut, the raw, bluesy EP "Jag tror det handlar om att". Six albums later, his sound has grown from bare-bones cabin recordings into something wider, where blues and rock meet soul and country — what he calls "bruksmusik", working-class music. But mostly, he's just kept playing: mile after mile, stage after stage, that gruff voice, dark humour and plainspoken tales of the mine, home and life have built a crowd that keeps growing. Airijoki is, by his own admission, no pop star. But the long road here has earned him something harder to come by: an audience that gets bigger every year.

In autumn 2026, Johan Airijoki heads out on an extensive tour running into 2027, with three shows at Fasching.
