About the concert
Mattias Risberg keeps expanding his mammoth project Mining, and in true entrepreneurial spirit is now seeking partners beyond Sweden's borders. This concert introduces the latest incarnation, Mining International, featuring some of the Nordic region's most prominent improvisers – and marks the band's premiere ahead of a forthcoming Nordic tour.
Mining began in Bergslagen with a concert about the mining industry, "Människan, Bergslagen och Världen" ("Man, Bergslagen and the World"), a piece that has since grown into a trilogy composed by Risberg. The music carries traces of Mingus, Zappa, Stravinsky, Genesis, Kate Bush, King Crimson and Miles Davis, wrapped in Risberg's own intricate compositions, dizzying improvisations and spontaneous twists. Six standalone suites have premiered so far – is a seventh on the way, perhaps timed to coincide with a Nasdaq listing?
